Pakistanis lag behind due to lack of right direction, says PU VC

LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Ali said that Pakistanis are one of the most intelligent nations in the world but we have lagged behind due to lack of right direction and thinking.

He said that the standard of honour is knowledge and piety, not wealth and power. He said that we all have to work together for the betterment of our country and that time is not far when we would launch a space shuttle from our country. PU VC Prof Dr M Ali expressed these views while addressing a seminar on Pakistan’s first astronaut with an incredible journey to the Chinese space station in 2026 at the auditorium of the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology here on Friday. The seminar was organised by PU Institute of Space Science in collaboration with SUPARCO.

Institute of Space Science Director Prof Dr Syed Amir Mahmood, SUPARCO Pakistan Deputy Managers Dr Syed Amir Gilani, Dr Sobia, School of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Director Dr M Khurshid, Department of Physics Chairperson Prof Dr Munza Zulfiqar Ali, Academic Staff Association President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi and a large number of students were present on this occasion. PU VC Prof Dr M Ali, in his address, said that it is a matter of pride for our nation that Pakistan’s first astronaut will go into space in 2026 with the help of China. He stressed the need to promote interdisciplinary research to address social issues. He said that the Ravi River has turned into a sewage canal, while industrial sewage water in Faisalabad goes into the Chenab. He said that water cannot be taken out without treatment. He said that we were not born in the world to earn money but to gain knowledge and we should educate children according to their talent.

He said that Allama Iqbal was not a technologist, but no one greater than him was born in the subcontinent. He said that Russia sent a shuttle into space 71 years ago. He said that it is very important to predict about natural disasters and climate change for the survival of life on earth and to solve problems. Dr Amir Mahmood said that space science is a broad field with which botany, zoology, materials science, biotechnology, biochemistry and other fields can achieve good results if they work together. Dr Amir Gilani and Dr Sobia also spoke in detail about space technology.

World Veterinary Day observed at UVAS: The University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) observed World Veterinary Day with the theme of ‘Animal health takes a team’ at City Campus here on Friday.

The objective to observe the day was to create awareness about the welfare of animals in the community and showcasing the contributions of veterinarians to public health and admiration of their role in essential work among communities and stakeholders UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus led a walk while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, faculty members, students and staff participated. The walk started from the VC office and culminated in front of the main lawn. Similar activities were also held in the other UVAS campuses.

Meanwhile the UVAS in collaboration with Rescue 1122 arranged a CADRE Training for students, staff and faculty members to deal with any emergency situation in UVAS. Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani chaired the concluding session of the training and distributed certificates among participants.

The participants received practical training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, heart and breathing, fracture management and stopping excessive bleeding in case of accidents or injuries.
