An aerial-view image of Islamabad has been circulating online. The image reveals a dystopian scene of a city without a speck of green in its midst. The increase in the city’s population and the demand for more housing settlements has robbed it of its green foliage. The city is losing its renowned charm due to rising water scarcity and increasingly hot and humid temperatures. The burning of trees in Margalla Hills has become a summer sport and those responsible are never apprehended for their crimes. The establishment of illegal housing societies has shrunk the flora and fauna of the capital and is rendering it barren.
The residents of Islamabad have witnessed a completely dry winter and then sudden hailstorms the size of golf balls. The fact that water levels are reaching dangerously low levels and yet people continue to waste water washing their cars or porches without even hesitating for a second. This shows the lack of government interest in addressing the perils of climate change and any awareness among people to take proactive measures against what is about to come. The most beautiful capital city in the world now faces a dreary future.
