The PTI days

Tuesday, Apr 29, 2025

This letter refers to the article ‘Rising from the meltdown’ (April 28, 2025) by Raoof Hasan. The writer has likened Imran Khan’s release from jail to Pakistan’s rise from various internal and external problems. However, when we look at the PTI’s time in power, we see a different picture. We see the then prime minister of Pakistan not visiting Balochistan when the Hazara community faced a tragedy and their families held a sit-in to demand the PM visit them. Imran Khan did not go, saying it was a blackmail tactic. This was very insensitive.

When it came to economic challenges, his government struggled with high inflation, a depreciating currency and increasing foreign debt. Many of his election promises went unfulfilled. The PTI also faced governance issues due to the hiring of inexperienced people. Imran also added to our foreign policy woes by giving irresponsible statements. He was given more than three years to prove himself and he failed miserably.
