Deadly ‘tradition’

Tuesday, Apr 29, 2025

We often see people using guns during weddings and other events as a way to celebrate marriages, thinking it brings excitement and joy. They rarely think about the fact that they are putting their own and others’ lives in danger. In 2025 alone, we have seen countless deaths and injuries as a result of celebratory gunfire, which has been a long-standing problem in this country.

Beyond the deaths and injuries this practice causes, it also contributes to a culture of violence. I urge the government to take serious action and tackle the use of firearms at public gatherings and the practice of celebratory firing. We have to educate people and raise awareness about how harmful this so-called ‘tradition’ is.
