Islamabad : A young woman from the Netherlands became the alleged victim of an assault and robbery, purportedly at the hands of a taxi driver, in broad daylight.
Top concerned police officers confirmed the report with the condition, not to expose their identity. The incident reportedly unfolded around 3:30 p.m. when the 21-year-old Dutch national ‘K’, sought a radio cab from Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, to reach Jinnah Super Market, Islamabad.
According to the victim's initial and formal account of the harrowing experience, the driver allegedly embarked on a circuitous and unauthorized route, deviating significantly from the direct path to her intended destination. Instead of heading towards Jinnah Super Market, the driver allegedly steered the vehicle through a series of unspecified locations before ultimately leading the unsuspecting young woman into the dense and relatively isolated woodlands of Shakarparian, a popular recreational area within the capital.
Adding to the uncertainty surrounding the investigation, no independent witnesses have yet emerged to definitively corroborate the victim's account of a taxi driver's involvement in this heinous act. While authorities have confirmed that a search operation is currently underway to locate the vehicle in question, another perplexing and unconfirmed claim has surfaced, suggesting that the young woman may have initially departed Satellite Town not in a taxi but on a motorbike that was reportedly stolen from the Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi.
Despite a disturbing pattern, the police have yet to lodge an FIR, raising serious concerns. This marks the third such harrowing incident involving cab drivers in the past two months alone. Alarmingly, two similar incidents occurred simultaneously during the first week of March, highlighting a potential crisis. The continued inaction by law enforcement remains unexplained and deeply troubling.
