Three people, including a woman, lost their lives in separate road accidents in parts of the city on Sunday. Police arrested the driver responsible for one of the accidents.
Within the limits of the SITE-A police station near Khyber Gate, a speeding Route No 20 bus hit a motorcycle on Sunday evening, killing a woman on the spot. Her body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
According to SHO Ayaz Khan, the deceased woman was identified as 35-year-old Musarrat, wife of Qadeemuddin. She was travelling on a motorcycle with her son to Faqir Colony in Orangi Town. The driver fled the scene but the police impounded the bus and launched a search for the suspect.
In another incident that took place near the Jungle Shah Bilal Godown in the Keamari area within the limits of the Jackson police station, a trailer truck cleaner was crushed to death under the vehicle's wheels.
His body was transported to the Civil Hospital, Karachi where he was identified as 30-year-old Ilyas. According to Jackson SHO Mithal Sher, the trailer driver had been arrested and a case registered. The deceased man and the driver were cousins. At the time of the accident, the deceased man was lying under the trailer truck while waiting for a delivery slip. He reportedly fell asleep, and when the driver received the slip and started the vehicle killing the cleaner.
Separately, in Korangi Industrial Area, a 55-year-old motorcyclist who had been seriously injured in a hit-and-run on the night of May 9, succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Riaz Ahmed, son of Nizamuddin, a resident of Korangi. After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
