Capital City Police Officer, Peshawar, Qasim Ali Khan told The News when asked that it was a suicide attack.

“Sub-Inspector Laiq Zada and Constable Alamzeb embraced martyrdom in the suicide attack on the police car near Cattle Market on GT Road,” the spokesman for the Peshawar Police told media.

Three other people were also wounded in the attack who were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

The lower body of the suspected suicide bomber, a bearded young man, was completely destroyed in the blast.

Senior police officials along with the bomb disposal unit and Counter Terrorism Department teams rushed to the spot and collected evidence. The specimen of the suicide bomber was also collected and sent to the forensic laboratory.

This was after quite some time that a police party has come under attack by suicide bomber in the provincial capital. There were frequent attacks on police and security forces in different districts including Peshawar happening for the last few years.

However, in most of the incidents police were attacked with automatic weapons, rockets, improvised explosive devices and hand grenades.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed took notice of the incident and directed the police and CTD teams to submit a report and further beef up security as well as increase operations against the terrorists.
