Plastic has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Millions of tons of plastic waste end up in oceans and seas each year, threatening marine life. Plastic pollution can also block waterways, harm soil quality and contribute to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions when it is burnt.
Plastic can also pose health risks to humans. Chemicals used in plastic production can leach into food and water, causing health issues. In order to counter plastic pollution, there is a need to move away from single-use plastics, improve recycling and waste-management systems and come up with more sustainable alternativesto plastic.
