Electricity pain

Thursday, May 22, 2025

Electricity bills in Pakistan are a significant concern for many due to their financial constraints and extra added unit costs. Electricity tariffs have steadily increased over the years, making it difficult for average consumers to afford their monthly bills and a significant portion of generated electricity is lost due to theft and inefficiencies in the distribution system, leading to higher costs for paying consumers. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the government has been reducing subsidies on electricity to meet IMF conditions, leading to higher costs for consumers. Slow implementation of energy sector reforms is also delaying potential relief for consumers. The government must look into these factors and find a way to reduce electricity costs.
