Islamabad:In a heartfelt celebration of Lollywood’s golden era, the Asian Study Group (ASG) hosted a nostalgic evening honouring legendary actress Rani—one of the brightest stars to grace the silver screen in Pakistan. The event, attended by diplomats, cultural figures, and cinephiles, revisited the life and legacy of the iconic actress, offering a glimpse into a bygone cinematic age that once captivated the nation.

Haroon Shuaib, a noted media and culture commentator, opened the evening with a stirring tribute to Rani, describing her as “an enigma, an embodiment of love and loss” whose artistry brought tales of heartbreak and resilience to life. “Her performances were synonymous with drama, tragedy, and timeless elegance,” he noted, captivating an audience that included younger Pakistanis unfamiliar with the rich cinematic history of the 1960s and 70s.

The event also explored Rani’s powerful portrayal of female strength in a male-dominated industry. “She created space for defiance in a world that often silenced women,” remarked Parveen Malik, the spirit behind ASG. “We are happy to showcase her life and work for audiences who never experienced the real magic of cinema.” Founded in 1973 and established as a Trust in 2015, ASG continues to bridge cultural gaps through educational and entertainment programmes. With lectures, discussion forums, and exploratory trips across Pakistan, the organization fosters greater understanding of the region’s rich cultural fabric.
