karachi: At least three robbery attempts in different areas of Karachi were thwarted on Friday as vigilant citizens took matters into their own hands, resulting in the killing of a suspected robbers and arrests of three others.
In the Singer Chowrangi area of Korangi, a robbery bid ended fatally for one of the suspects. According to SHO Gul Hasan Kalhoro, a man identified as Sarfaraz, 27, was shot and killed by a citizen, Safeerullah, during an attempted mugging.
Safeerullah, who was armed, opened fire in self-defence, instantly killing the assailant.
In another incident near the Hanfia Masjid in Korangi Sector 51-B, two armed motorcyclists tried to rob a man named Zahid Sheikh, 40.
During the scuffle, the robbers shot and injured the victim. However, local residents intervened, capturing one of the assailants identified as Abu Bakar, and handed him over to police after beating him. The second suspect managed to escape.
Meanwhile, near Chiragh Hotel in Landhi No 5, another robbery attempt took an unexpected turn when one of the robbers accidentally shot his own accomplice, Imran, son of Dil Murad, during the confrontation with a resisting victim.
People nearby also managed to get hold of the shooter, identified as Ismail, son of Mir Gul, and severely beat him up before handing him over to the police.
Both the suspects were taken to a hospital for treatment.
