PESHAWAR: Supreme Court (SC) Registrar Muhammad Saleem Khan has said that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology is the need of the hour as it not only brings transparency to the system but also ensures swift disposal of judicial matters and proceedings.

Speaking at a meeting at the Peshawar Registry Branch of the Supreme Court, he stressed that the use of modern technology and AI in the justice system was essential for ensuring transparency and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of judicial proceedings.

The SC, Communication and Works (C&W) Department and the Information Technology (IT) Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials attended the meeting.

The participants emphasized the implementation of judicial reforms focused on IT integration and infrastructure upgrades in line with the vision of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The meeting was informed that tools such as management systems, e-filing mechanisms, video link hearings, and technology-driven solutions, particularly those powered by artificial intelligence, could significantly enhance court operations and reduce delays, thereby strengthening public trust in the judiciary.

The registrar reaffirmed the SC’s commitment to improving access to legal processes for both lawyers and litigants and to ensuring the provision of affordable justice.

The importance of cyber security, data protection, and other related concerns was also discussed. Apart from the IT sector, the registrar highlighted the crucial role of the C&W Department in improving the court’s physical infrastructure and providing a better environment.

He stressed the need for enhancing cleanliness, maintenance, and general facilities in courts, and also making courts more accessible to persons with disabilities.
