LAHORE:The Home Department Punjab has finalised a comprehensive plan to ensure the peaceful and secure observance of Muharram-ul-Haram. A dedicated e-portal has been established for real-time monitoring, and all deputy commissioners have been instructed to upload complete information within five days regarding Majalis (religious gatherings), processions, sensitive locations, restrictions on speakers, and district entry bans.
Important security guidelines have also been issued to the police and district administrations. The IGP Punjab has been directed to inform the department about the required deployment of army and rangers at sensitive points and to submit recommendations for the suspension of mobile phone signals where necessary. Special monitoring teams are to be formed to prevent illegal use of loudspeakers, and strict action will be taken under the Sound System Regulation Act 2015 for any violations.
Deputy commissioners across all districts have been instructed to prepare emergency response plans in coordination with District Intelligence Committees. Updated lists of banned or provocative speakers are to be compiled and submitted to the home department within five days.
Authorities have been ordered to identify all sensitive locations and to ensure foolproof security arrangements. From 1st to 10th Muharram, separate security plans must be prepared for events of all sects, leaving no room for lapses.
The Auqaf Department has been instructed to convene meetings of Interfaith Harmony Committees at the divisional level. Local administrations have been directed to remove hanging and dangerous electric wires from procession routes across the province.
The home department’s spokesperson emphasised that no processions or gatherings would be permitted other than the designated areas, and all events will be strictly monitored. Strict implementation of security SOPs and foolproof arrangements has been ordered across Punjab to maintain peace and order.
