Nishtar Hospital Phase-II facing shortage of doctors

MULTAN: The newly built Nishtar Hospital phase-II is facing problems due to shortage of doctors and non-establishment of full-fledged anesthesia section at the hospital.

In this connection, a delegation of Pakistan Medical Association led by PMA president Prof Dr Masoodul Rauf Haraj along with Nishtar-II faculty members met with Nishtar Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mehnaz Khakwani at her office here on Friday. The PMA delegation discussed shortage of doctors and other staff at Nishtar phase-II, lack of recruitment according to SNE, inclusion of Nishtar-II faculty at Nishtar Academic Council and upgradation of Anesthesia Department with the VC. On this occasion, anesthesia Prof Dr Waseem Rabbani, Prof Dr Tahir Chaudhry, Dr Ashfaq Malik, Dr Abdul Manan, Dr Rizwan Sharif, Dr Mehboob Qadir and Dr Waqas were also present.

During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mehnaz Khakwani was informed that due to non-recruitment according to SNE at Nishtar-II, there was a severe shortage of doctors and other staff at the hospital, which was causing problems for the patients. They told the VC that the upgradation of Nishtar-II Anesthesia Department was also facing delay.

The delegation said that the Anesthesia Department was the backbone of any hospital so the problems of the department need immediate attention. They said that the faculty of Nishtar-II Hospital should be made a part of Nishtar’s Academic Council and must be included in all other activities of the university. After listening to the issues, the VC said that the faculty would soon made a part of the Academic Council. She said that she would talk to the higher authorities for immediate solution to other issues.
