Systemic tragedy

Sunday, Jun 15, 2025

The brutal killing of content creator Sana Yousaf in Islamabad has cast a harsh light on the escalating threats faced by young women in Pakistan. Her tragic death, reportedly stemming from stalking and rejection, is not an isolated case. It reflects systemic failures in addressing gender-based violence. Educational institutions and community programs should implement awareness initiatives focused on consent, emotional intelligence, and digital safety. Sana’s death must serve as a wake-up call. A comprehensive response – spanning legal, cultural and educational domains – is essential to ensure that young women in Pakistan can live, express themselves and thrive without fear.
