‘Balochistan govt to sack officials for poor performance’

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan has taken the lead in taking the decision for a drastic overhaul of the civil administration, as Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has asked authorities to relieve officers who have not lived up to the requisites of the duty and have failed in delivery.

Highly placed sources told The News here Friday that in a bid to break the long-standing stagnation in the government system and establish good governance, the chief minister has made up his mind to bring transformation in the civil administration. He has made it clear to the administration that “Bureaucracy must deliver or go home.”

Chief Minister Bugti has assigned special task to provincial chief secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan in this regard.

Instructions have been issued in categorical terms to identify all officers who are hindering service delivery, worsening public issues, or are found negligent in performing their obligations.

The sources pointed out that a provincial action plan has been worked out. Sources have confided that the provincial government has decided to prematurely retire officers with consistently unsatisfactory performance under Section 13 of the Civil Service Act.

The law provides that the competent authority has the powers to retire any government employee after 20 years of service, if failed in performance and fails to meet official expectations. Initial lists of such employees have reportedly been prepared, and accordingly major decisions are expected to be taken in few weeks. The provincial government has made it clear that no political or personal pressure will be allowed.
