ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee on Thursday while taking notice of the manufacturing of cooking oil from chicken waste directed the Pakistan Standard and Quality Authority (PSQA) to take action.

A meeting of the PAC was held with Rana Tanveer Hussain in the chair. The meeting examined the audit paras relating to the Ministry of Science and Technology for the financial year 2018-19 and 2019-20. PAC Member Tariq Hussain raised the issue of making cooking oil from chicken waste. He said there are many factories in Sindh where cooking oil is made by melting waste including chicken intestines and claws.

In an informal discussion during the PAC meeting, Rana Tanveer remarked that the Ministry of Science and Technology is important and in some countries, the minister of Science and Technology is made deputy prime minister, but “we lack institutional capacity”.

PAC Member Ayaz Sadiq in a lighter tone remarked that if the PMLN comes into power, Rana Tanveer will be the minister of Science and Technology. PAC Member from the ruling PTI Riaz Fatyana responded immediately to Ayaz Sadiq, saying: “You should wait till 2028 for this.”
