Karachi: An accountability court on Friday barred the executive director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Dr Nadeem Qamar, from travelling abroad without seeking its prior permission.
Dr Qamar, who is the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA and federal minister Naveed Qamar, faces an inquiry in connection with alleged illegal appointments and corruption in the health facility. He has obtained pre-arrest bail.
Accountability judge Abdul Ghani Soomro resumed the hearing of the bail application on Friday when Advocate GM Bhutto, who represented a suspended officer of the hospital, Dr Tariq Sheikh, pointed out that Dr Nadeem had reportedly obtained a no-objection certificate from the chief secretary of the province to travel to London for three weeks.
The counsel said Dr Qamar wanted to travel from May 27 without intimating the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the court about his travel plan.
