A man shot his wife dead before committing suicide in front of their child in Malir’s Gulshan-e-Qadri area on Saturday. The drama began around 4pm, when he stood at the window of his house on the second floor and demanded attention from the media.
The locals gathered on the spot recorded the incident on their phones and uploaded it to social media platforms. After standing at the window the man demanded media attention as he threatened to commit suicide.
He continued to ask for the media to give him attention, saying that he would talk about his problems on air, otherwise he and his family would commit suicide.
After about an hour and a half he shot his wife dead, then took his own life. No one took the incident seriously until the two deaths occurred.
The man used to run a shop in the area. He had moved to the building a few days ago. When the police arrived, they heard three gunshots. The main door of the building was closed, so the police took the stairs.
The man’s uncle told the police that the deceased, Mashkoor, 35, had an argument with his father and was mentally unstable. Police said the man was living in the house with his second wife.
Malir SSP Tariq Mastoi told the media that Mashkoor killed his wife before committing suicide. The officer said the man had a property dispute with his parents and brothers. The The parents had given him a shop to run a grocery, he added.
SSP Mastoi said that according to the relatives, Mashkoor had some psychological issues, adding that his parents were about to hand over some property to him.
The officer said Mashkoor kept shouting from the window demanding media attention. He claimed that the police had tried to stop him. “Within a short while gunfire was heard, so the police climbed up the stairs and broke the door. Inside, a man and a woman were found dead, but the two-year-old was safe.”
The SSP said Mashkoor had kept the doors of the house closed, adding that his paternal relations belonged to Rahim Yar Khan, while he also had some land dealings. His parents were paying the rent of his house, he added.
