LAHORE: The purchase of chicken at official rates has become a distant dream for consumers as poultry crisis worsened to the extent that traders have decided to halt the supply of poultry from today (Wednesday).
The Punjab Poultry Traders Association has decided not to supply poultry to broiler vendors in the metropolitan and elsewhere in the Punjab with a view to observing a strike starting today. The official supply rate for live broiler has been raised by Rs22 per kg to Rs463 per kg, however, poultry traders have increased the supply rate by another Rs32 per kg to Rs495 per kg by issuing their own price list. As a result, many retail broiler meat shop owners preferred not to open their business in various areas of the city. Punjab Poultry Traders Association has claimed that they were being sold chicken by producers at much higher price.
