Security for Pak-New Zealand matches reviewed

LAHORE: Commissioner on Wednesday held a meeting regarding security and municipal arrangements during Pakistan-New Zealand T20 cricket matches.

Two T20 matches between Pakistan and New Zealand will be held on April 25 and April 27, 2024 at Nishtar Complex Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

PCB officers gave a detailed briefing to the commissioner the matches. He said that the status of Pak New Zealand teams will be VVIP and accordingly the best traffic plan will be arranged and advertised by the traffic police. Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that 120 walk-through gates and 336 extra CCTV cameras will be installed and along with this, special control rooms will also be built in addition to the PCB control room.

He made it clear that lighting will be done at every blind spot from the security point of view and no compromise will be made on it.

He said that 355 workers of LWMC will be assigned with the responsibility of cleanliness during the matches to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and fines will also be imposed on the spectators littering the stadium. He directed for strictly checking the prices and standards of food items inside the stadium. All departments should ensure that citizens face minimum difficulties during the successful conduct of Pak New Zealand matches and movement of teams as per schedule and procedures. Officers of police, district administration, traffic police, Rescue 1122, PCB and other relevant departments participated in the meeting.

Meanwhile, a meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa regarding the Lahore Development Revamping Programme of Chief Minister Punjab. He gave instructions that a monitoring system will be set up before the commencement of Lahore Development Revamping Programme which will be continuously monitored.

Commissioner said that the city will be divided into 9 zones and all areas of the city will be targeted in it. Details of rehabilitation works in these 9 zones have also been prepared. He said that there will be work on sewerage, drainage, road and PCC repair and maintenance, patchwork and street lights in 9 zones. He said that the schemes are in the identification stages which will ensure that there is no duplication of any work.

He said that joint teams of district administration, Wasa, LWMC and LDA will work throughout Lahore to ensure the quality of development schemes. He made it clear that the development work will be completed in all areas as per the deadlines, on which there will be no compromise.
