PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday issued a notice to the office-bearers of the Pakistan Hockey Federation to respond to the contempt of court petition within seven days.
A two-member PHC bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Fazal Subhan heard the petition seeking the initiation of the contempt of court proceedings against the office-bearers of Pakistan Hockey Federation.
Former Olympian Naeem Akhtar had filed the petition. During the hearing, the bench was told that the petitioner had moved the court against the election of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The bench was informed that the court had allowed the federation to hold its election, but had stopped it from declaring the results.
The court was told that an unauthorized person summoned a meeting of the federation which was also attended by unauthorized members. According to the petition, the newly elected president and other office-bearers of the federation were also notified despite the court orders to the contrary.
The petitioner said that the election result of the federation was unveiled despite the court orders to the contrary, which amounted to contempt of court. The bench issued notices to the office-bearers of the federation, including Rana Mujahid, Tariq Hussain and others and adjourned the hearing.
