KARACHI: Former Olympian Shahnaz Sheikh has demanded that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif form an interim setup in the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in order to save the national sport from devastation.
While talking to The News on Sunday, Shahnaz said that there is a lot of mess in hockey, hence a complete overhauling and restructuring is the need of the hour. Shahnaz criticized the one-day trials for the selection of Pakistan hockey team for participation in Sultan Azlan Shah hockey tournament in Malaysia next month.
He said that one-day trials are not enough for the identification of best players. He said no selector can judge the players’ abilities through one hour trials. Shahnaz recalled that the Prime Minister had constituted a three-member committee comprising him, Isahuddin and Akhtar Rasool to find a solution to the ongoing crisis.
He said that the committee submitted its recommendation to PM house for the solution of the issues. Without an interim set-up, the situation of the national game would worsen, he said.
