LAHORE: Lahore Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood directed the officials concerned to take comprehensive and effective measures to save clean water and prevent it from being wasted. He issue these directions while presiding over a meeting at Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) head office on Saturday. MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed and all Wasa directors participated in the meeting. Wasa Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed gave a detailed briefing to the Commissioner Lahore regarding different issues, development programmes and the operations of various wings of Wasa. It was told in the briefing that Wasa was managing 4,000km sewer and 76km drain system of provincial capital.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Lahore said that Wasa should plan keeping in mind the sewer and water supply of Lahore district with 13 million population.
He said that the preliminary arrangements regarding pre-monsoon measures should be ensured now.
Commissioner Lahore was informed in the briefing that online water connections, digital complaint management and other interventions have improved civic services. Wasa MD said that Wasa has done phased planning for the entire Lahore city for the next five years. He said that according to the planning, Wasa will expand the provision of Wasa services under 6 sub-zones. Commissioner Lahore said that Wasa was a specialised institution and its machinery will be provided as per planning.
He said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was taking vigorous steps to provide civic amenities. Commissioner Lahore said that there were sewage problems in the suburbs of Lahore, which have to be worked on quickly.
