Islamabad:Khawateen Mahaz-e-Amal (Women’s Action Forum (WAF) stands in solidarity with the media, and strongly condemns the target killing of Siddique Mengal, President Khuzdar Press Club, Balochistan, who is the third head of Khuzdar Press Club to be target killed, says a press release.
WAF observes that it is even more outrageous and ironic that this atrocity was deliberately committed on World Press Freedom Day (WPFD). Pakistan’s record is abysmal in RSF’s global rankings on media freedom.
WAF pays tribute to all our media icons and legends, who remained steadfast throughout and suffered immensely, for speaking Truth to Power. WAF endorses and reiterates the longstanding demands for: an end to direct and indirect media censorship; pressure tactics against journalists via family members; arrests, disappearances, torture, killings; safety, security, protection of journalists, especially women, who are additionally subjected to sexual harassment, gender-based violence and character assassination.
