It has been reported that the Sindh government has decided to auction vehicle number plates, which could generate a revenue of Rs2-3 billion per year if even 10 per cent of the people opt for personalized number plates. I think this is a good idea to generate extra revenue, however, it is more important to expedite the process of issuing new number plates and clear the backlog without delay. I request the authorities concerned to make the process for issuing number plates more efficient so that new numbers can be issued within a few minutes, as is the case in other countries such as the UAE. This would help solve the problem of several cars being driven with temporary, barely legible number plates.
