MANSEHRA: The Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, which is being executed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be completed in November this year as work on the scheme is well in progress despite a suicide attack on Chinese engineers in Bisham tehsil of Shangla district.
“The tragic incident in which five Chinese nationals were killed in Bisham is condemnable. However, the brave Chinese engineers and workers continued their work in the energy project, which is a symbol of the everlasting Pak-China friendship,” Syed Abdul Rehman, the Assistant Director of Suki Kinari Hydropower project, told reporters here on Thursday.
He said the 884-megawatts Suki Kinari Hydropower Project being built at Kunhar River in Kaghan valley is being completed under the CPEC.“The security of over 300 Chinese engineers and workers has been enhanced after the suicide attack on the convoy in Karakoram Highway in Bisham,” Syed Rehman said.
“The work on the project is in progress as usual and Chinese engineers and workers have dedicatedly been working to complete this energy scheme on time,” he added. The official said that the spillways of the dam were practically checked earlier this month. “This is an asphalt concrete dam filled with rocks. We have completed all stages of its construction so far. And now the project is most likely to be completed in November this year,” the official added.
