LAHORE : Four sisters, all of whom are excellent athletes, bring honour and pride to Pakistan by winning competitions and tournaments in various countries.
A special ceremony was held at the YMCA Hall to honour four sisters - Twinkle Sohail, Maryam Sohail, Cybil Sohail, and Veronica Sohail for their victories in kabaddi, powerlifting, and weightlifting competitions. YMCA Lahore announced honorary memberships for the four athletes. The Bishop of Lahore, Rt. Rev. Nadeem Kamran, graced the occasion as the chief guest and was honoured with a life membership in the YMCA. Bishop Kamran commended the YMCA for its services to the youth.
"It is heartening to see the YMCA recognising the four Christian sisters who have brought pride to the nation by excelling in their respective sports at international level," he said. YMCA General Secretary Emanuel Sarfraz said that the YMCA has always supported athletes and sportspeople. "Today, the YMCA appoints the Sohail sisters as its goodwill ambassadors to encourage other Christian youth to excel in life. We urge the first female Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, whom the Christian community looks to with great expectations for progress and development, to personally meet these athletes and help address their issues," Sarfraz added.
Twinkle, who has won four gold medals in recent years, and Cybil, also a gold medalist, elaborated various challenges the sisters face. It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan Sports Board and other organisations do not fully fund or support athletes.
