MANSEHRA: Religious scholars and ulema from various schools of thought on Wednesday to declare their commitment to preventing the infiltration of terrorists into the Kohistan region.
They pledged support to the police in ensuring foolproof security for Chinese nationals working on major development projects in the area.“We have never allowed terrorists to enter our region in the past, and we will continue to do so in the future,” stated Maulana Abdul Kareem during a meeting held at the office of district police officer in Pattan, the district headquarters of Lower Kohistan.
The meeting, convened by District Police Officer Mohammad Umar, saw a significant turnout of religious scholars from across the district.Maulana Kareemdad emphasised that the Ulema would mobilise the people of Kohistan to prevent terrorists from infiltrating their defenses and carrying out subversive activities, as seen in the recent attack in Bisham where five Chinese nationals and a Pakistani driver lost their lives in a suicide bombing on March 26, 2024.
Tehsil Chairman Ranowali, Maulana Fazl Wahab, asserted that the people of Kohistan were united in thwarting the nefarious designs of miscreants on their soil.“We are prepared to provide all kinds of assistance to the police department to ensure the foolproof security of Chinese nationals passing through our district via a 65km stretch of the Karakoram Highway,” he said.
Maulana Rehmatullah, the tehsil chairman of Pattan, condemned the suicide attack on a Chinese convoy in Bisham, as vowed solidarity against terrorism.District Police Officer Mohammad Umar commended the religious scholars for their support in the fight against terrorism.
“You wield significant influence in this society, and I am confident that you will continue to support efforts to make the Kohistan region peaceful and free from terrorism,” he said.Umar assured the Ulema that the KP police would spare no effort in eradicating terrorists from the Kohistan region.
