ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary leader of the PMLN in the Senate Senator Irfan Siddiqui Thursday invited attention of interior minister into an incident of high-handedness of the capital police.
According to details, the police took a van filled with female students of medical college to a police station on driver’s failure to furnish documents for verification.
The van carrying nine students of Islamabad Medical and Dental College Bahara Kahu was on way to drop them home when a police official stopped the vehicle and demanded for production of the documents. The driver requested that he should be allowed to drop the student’s home but instead he was forced to go to Ramna Police Station. “They (students) are not our responsibility,” said a policeman while issuing the orders. Afterwards, the students were left helpless in front of the police station.
Some of the female students who had mobile phones called their families for pick up. Some parents contacted Senator Irfan Siddiqui to demand an investigation into the incident and said that the matter should be brought to the attention of higher authorities.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that this matter will also be raised in the Senate. “This attitude of the police is extremely regrettable,” he said.
