Regi police station attacked in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Terrorists attacked the Regi Model Town police station in the provincial capital with automatic weapons on Thursday night. There was no casualty reported in the attack that was repulsed by the cops.

Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Kashif Zulfiqar said that the cops in the police station repulsed the attack.

Heavy contingents of police along with armoured personnel carriers rushed to the areas after reports of attack by the terrorists on the police station. The exchange of fire continued for some time before the attackers escaped.

A search operation was underway in the area. Police in the limits of the same police station have come under attack a couple of times in the past months.

Attacks on police and other forces have recorded a sudden increase in parts of the province for the last few days.

A cop Farhad deployed to guard a Sikh hakeem was martyred in an attack in Baghbanan in the area of Inqilab police station on Tuesday. Before the incident, police and Customs officials came under attack in Dera Ismail Khan district in the last few days, claiming many lives. A cop was also martyred in Battagram.

In the last few weeks, a superintendent of police was martyred in an attack in Mardan while a DSP was martyred in Lakki Marwat.

Nowshera Press Club ransacking condemned By our correspondent NOWSHERA: The journalist community on Thursday condemned the attack on Nowshera Press Club and urged the police to take action against the alleged attackers.

The demand was made at an emergency meeting of the general body of the Nowshera Press Club which was chaired by the club President Mushtaq Paracha. All the office-bearers, including Pir Tajmir Shah, Nasir Khan, Zahoor Ahmad, Jehanzeb Khattak, Muhammad Shahid, Bakht Bisyar and others attended the meeting.

They alleged that the accused equipped with arms forced into the press club and hit the members with butts and ransacked the offices.

The participants condemned the manhandling of the Nowshera Press Club President Mushtaq Paracha and other members of the governing body Muhammad Shahid and Bakht Bisyar by Farhat Shah Asad. They asked the police high-ups to arrest the accused involved in the ransacking of the club and roughing up its elected members.
